Yesterday (18/06/2010) I went to the Sonar Music Festival and I approved it to be a good festival!

In short I made some review of this nice festival. Go and read it quickly and make up your mind to come there next year! ;-)

Transport

The public transport to the festival is a good point. There is a train (www.fgc.cat). I had no problems getting there, although it might be a little bit difficult for people that do not really know the way towards Fira (Close to the IKEA in Barcelona)

Organization

Here is the worst part of the festival. I would recommend you if you are going there to take enough cash with you because I spent +- 45 minutes queuing because there was only 1 ATM in the whole festival area. Apparently they do not want to make money? Also I spent +- 45 minutes queuing to get a ticket (As you could predict, only cash was accepted).

The last negative point is that you even have to queue a long time to buy your drinking tickets and then go to the bars to queue again! And from my experience in other similar festivals such as I Love Techno the bars mostly have their drinks prepared so they only have to give them to the people. In Sonar they have to prepare all the drinks themselves and this does not result in speedy bars.

Besides, why should you want to sell tickets in the most crowded place of the festival? Oh and why would you not accept credit cards?

Music

The best part of the festival!

Aeroplane

This Belgian artist made it a funky Electronic/House show and I really enjoyed listening calmly to this artist. Saving some energy for later in the night is always a good idea!

LCD SoundSystem

I only saw 20 minutes of LCD Soundsystem. They started out well but it was way too crowded for me. Seeing them once when I was attending Pukkelpop is sufficient. www.lcdsoundsystem.com

Flying Lotus

Flying Lotus is a Californian band that was recommended by my flatmate that generally likes Rock a lot. I was surprised that this was anything but rock. Flying Lotus achieved in revealing a part of the electronic music that was undiscovered for me. Flying Lotus brought us some Jazz / Electro / Hip Hop / Experimental / Psychedelic. As you could see, a bit of everything! It might seem that his music is very messy initially, however the contrary is true. Recommended to see! www.myspace.com/flyinglotus

2 Many DJ's

I don’t think I have to introduce 2 Many Dj’s to you. This group from my city of origin never ceases to amaze me and appearently the crowd was thinking the same. They have crazy remixes and even sometimes reminded me at Daft Punk because they have the ability the synchronize the show with sound, video and craziness. The visual effects were stunning and not because they were so complex, but mainly because they were made of the covers of the remixed song. Incredible! www.soulwax.com/

Booka Shade

This minimal techno artists performed a nice set and even brought most of their music live with an electrical drumset. It was the perfect concert to end a great evening. www.bookashade.com/

Media

Included are some pictures and 2 embedded youtube video’s I recorded with my camera. I must admit that the sound of my camera is awfull but some pieces in the video are worthwhile!
